How to Build a Ramp
Required Tools and Materials
Plywood
2×6 boards
Saw
Nails or screws
2×4 boards
Hammer
Step 1
Draw and measure the ramp. If it is a quarter pipe, set the height, vert and transition.
Step 2
Illustrate the curve on the ply wood. A quarter pipe needs two sections of the same size.
Step 3
Cut the 2×6 to set the skeleton to the desired width. You can also use the 2×4s if you want bigger ramps.
Step 4
Secure these to the two pieces, following the curvature. Fasten three boards at the ramp bottom. Brace them.
Step 5
Cut plywood or another smooth, flexible material. It should match the width and length of the board. Connect this to the skeleton ramp with the screws.
Step 6
Set the ramp on a solid base.
How to do an Ollie
Step 1
Get on the board. Put your back foot on the tail. The front foot should be between the center of the board and the front bolts.
Step 2
Put the ball of your back foot in the center of the skateboard. You will feel the pressure on the balls of the feet when you push it.
Step 3
Put your front foot straight across the skateboard.
Step 4
Push down as fast possible with the rear foot. Place all your weight on the tail.
Step 5
Strike the tail while on the ground. Jump with the back foot as the front foot slides on the skateboard. Your knee will move to the chest.
Step 6
Drag your foot to the skateboard as you jump. The skateboard will come up with you as the jump begins. The skateboard will go up with your feet.
Step 7
When you get down, just repeat the process.
Tips and Warnings
Start this trick without rolling. This will help you get accustomed to the movements. As you get used to it, your movement will be smother and quicker.
The pushing down of the tail, jumping and the sucking of the legs should be done simultaneously. This seems difficult, but only in the beginning. The quicker you perform the maneuver, the easier it will be.
Never try skateboarding unless you are wearing pads and other protective gear. These should be purchased along with the skateboard. Do not perform any of the advanced tricks and stunts until you are well versed with the basics. Take your time and practice as often as possible.
Buying very cheap complete skateboards will help you get started on learning this sport. After you build a ramp, you can start performing the ollie and doing other tricks.
